History

Located on the outskirts of the town, “Straelener Hof” was built in 1927 by the Kemper family, co-owners of the prominent shoe factory PM Tauwel, as a private house in English country house style. The pear pergola, which is located behind the seminar centre, dates from this period.

In the mid-sixties, the Kemper house was purchased by the promotion company for business and tourism, in which Straelen held a one-third stake. The house was converted without harming the exterior facade. It now had three guest rooms, a hall with approximately 150 seats, as well as a bowling alley, terrace and 20 beds. Straelener Hof was opened in 1967.

At the beginning of the seventies, the Klantens, a married couple, leased the building, which they purchased in 1979. It was resold in 1990, for successor reasons, to Hermann Tecklenburg, a construction company.

In May 1991, the new lessee, Angelika Hoffmann, opened the Hotel Straelener Hof. It soon became clear that the capacity of hotel was insufficient for the town of Straelen. In 1998, the long-planned and much discussed extension was actually implemented by Hermann Tecklenburg. The “new” Straelener Hof was opened in June 1999.
